What it does
Etherscan is where a research claim can be checked against a transaction. Search a hash, address or contract to inspect transfers, execution details and verified source code, then compare what happened with what an interface reported.
A verified contract means published code matches a deployment under the verification process; it does not mean the code is safe. Labels and token metadata are additional context, while balances and transaction traces answer different questions.
Where it stands out
- Direct transaction evidence helps verify dashboard summaries.
- Contract views and developer tools support deeper inspection.
What you can do
- 01Transactions, address balances and token histories.
- 02Contract verification and interaction tools.
- 03API access and a family of chain explorers.
Who’s behind it
Team Etherscan operates the explorer and Information Center. The service is independent of being an Ethereum wallet or the Ethereum network itself.
Fees & availability
Fees and costs
Public browsing is available free. API plans, rate limits and supported free-tier chains vary; onchain writes cost gas.
Eligibility and availability
Not a wallet or recovery service. Contract verification and labels do not certify an address, token or protocol as safe.
